Fort Wayne, Ind. — Professional soccer is back in less than forty days for Fort Wayne FC as they prepare to debut at their new home field – Bishop John D’Arcy Stadium at the University of Saint Francis.
Entering their third season of play under the USL2, the first match of the season will see Fort Wayne FC hosting King’s Hammer SC on Saturday, May 13th at 7:00 pm. This game will be extra special as the Club celebrates soccer legend and FWFC owner, DaMarcus Beasley, on his May 6th induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame. The first 300 fans will receive a FWFC/DaMarcus Beasley Hall of Fame poster.
Fort Wayne FC’s home schedule currently includes six league matches with another four exhibition matches including an international match on the horizon. A 12-game regular USL2 season is scheduled to be played from May 1st to mid-July. Division and Conference playoffs are scheduled for late July with the league championship in August.
“We made some major strides in 2022 and we hope to continue our trajectory as a Club moving forward,” stated Head Coach & Sporting Director, Mike Avery. “We were intentional as we put this year’s team together, and we looked to build from our strengths while adding new pieces that take us to the next level. We have a strong core of returning players that understand how we strive to play and the culture we seek to create within the team, and these players will help us set the tone for the rest of the team. We’ve also added some very talented players that can help us continue to grow in new and exciting ways. I think our incredible supporters are really going to enjoy watching this year’s team play, and I can’t wait to get started,” added Avery.
Not only will Fort Wayne FC be playing at a new venue but they’ll take the pitch onto USF Kevin Donley Field’s updated turf surface. And all eyes will be on the newly installed, state-of-the-art LED video board. Also on debut will be the PitchView Suites providing the perfect premium setting to entertain clients, reward employees, network with peers or enjoy an evening with family and friends.
“We’re excited to begin season three at the University of Saint Francis,” commented Laurie Perolio-Bullinger, Fort Wayne FC’s director of operations. “The setting at Bishop D’Arcy Stadium will offer fans an awe-inspiring atmosphere on game days and create memorable experiences. Our game day strategy continues to focus on the fan experience and how to create ‘raving soccer fans’ as we continue to grow the beautiful game right here in our own city,” added Perolio-Bullinger.
